This elephant was inspired by Maria Barry and was my first attempt at an elephant. He's painted on 140 lb cold pressed paper using professional quality watercolor paints.
One Christmas, when I was a young child, I was given a paint by numbers kit. I promptly discarded the instructions and painted my first oil of a horse on a windswept hill. My love of art was born. Decades later, I was introduced to the magic of watercolor. I love their transparency and how the amount of water can transform the pigment from subtle to bold and as you can see, I do love my bold colors. Finally, I will usually add a touch of whimsy.
